At 31 feet, 4 inches with a 10-foot beam, the new Premier 290 Grand View is an impressive pontoon. Add on the optional twin engines and it just gets even better. That’s right, twin engines on a pontoon. I’m going to assume most readers have not seen this before and, let me tell you, it is really quite something.
The Grand View is a triple pontoon that comes standard with Premier’s PTX performance package. Premier then rigs an engine on each of the outside logs. First of all, the control you gain in close quarters is incredible. Anyone who has tried to dock a large ’toon in the wind could appreciate this. This also means you get a large swim area off the transom. Premier takes advantage of the space between the two engines with steps that go right down into the water. There is a swim ladder under the steps as well so reboarding isn’t the chore it can be on some boats.
The interior is first-class luxury thanks to Premier’s Flexsteel built couches. The bow filler couch is standard, so you can create an inviting U-shaped lounge area up front. On the port side is the Escape galley system complete with solid surface countertop and a very stylish vessel sink basin. Across from this, the refreshment centre continues complete with wine glass holders.
Now we get to the part that really is innovative. The aft deck, including the helm stand, is elevated above the rest of the boat, giving you a two tier/two level system. This provides the captain excellent visibility when underway, while also creating stadium-like seating for the passengers keeping the captain company at the rear.
The Premier 290 Grand View is definitely in the upper echelon of pontoon boats. It also shows why many boaters are making the switch to pontoons every day. They provide the ultimate day boat solution for large families. You can do the same thing on this boat as you would a big bowrider or even a cuddy or small express cruiser. It will handle just as well, but I guarantee the Grand View will turn more heads.
