About Mako

Enduring Master of the Sea

Forty years ago, a small company began designing and building revolutionary fishing boats that quickly earned a reputation as the most rugged in the world. As one of the originators of the center console fishing boat, Mako boats shattered the myth that offshore fishing was the exclusive domain of well-heeled owners of big, expensive sport fishing yachts. Today, you'll see them in every port where serious anglers gather—still fishing Mako boats built 20, 30 and even 40 years ago! Our earliest designs literally defined saltwater fishing boats for generations to come. And the reputation they earned has endured for four decades. Mako boats, with its classic Mako shark emblem, remain the most widely recognized brand in the industry today.

From the very beginning, Mako boats built boats tougher than they had to be. And today, our new generation boats are still the most rugged and seaworthy you can buy—with even more saltwater fishing innovations than their famous predecessors.

When you buy a Mako boat you don't just become an owner. You become a member of the MAKO boat family, a fraternity of over 30,000 anglers and boating enthusiasts who have made an incredible imprint on saltwater sport fishing in the United States and around the world!

The Difference of Mako Boats

Mako boats are rugged, seaworthy craft designed to maximize your family's enjoyment and peace of mind.

The proud Mako boat heritage is continually updated with modern designs, materials and advanced manufacturing.

Mako boats are designed for versatility and uncompromising fishability—all the seating, storage and fishing features serious anglers demand.

A smooth, dry ride is a Mako boats trademark even in rough seas. Self bailing cockpits are a standard of Mako boats safety feature — always have been and always will be.

All Mako boats hulls and stringer grids are constructed of solid, hand-laid fiberglass laminates for maximum strength, rigidity and durability.

Mako boats hulls and decks are mechanically fastened and chemically bonded to provide a rock-solid fishing platform.

Mako boats feature corrosion-resistant aluminum, bronze and stainless steel marine–grade hardware.

Mako boats are NMMA certified.

Mako Boats Marine Facility

Quality environment, modern equipment and proven methods are behind every boat built in our new, state-of-the-art saltwater boat manufacturing facility in Forest City, North Carolina.

CAD Design

Mako boats hulls, decks and internal systems are designed using the latest in computer-aided-design (CAD) technology.

Mold Rotator

The rotator positions the hull in the correct position for every stage of the quality manufacturing process.

Superior Gelcoat

High quality gelcoats are skillfully applied in a climate-controlled environment. MAKO boats gelcoat finishes resist chalking, fading and crazing for the life of the boat.

Environmentally Sensitive Air Filtering System

The high-tech air filtering system maintains a constant flow of fresh air to remove fiberglass dust and debris from the air. This helps assure a flawless gelcoat finish while protecting the environment and improving air quality for our employees.

Hand Laid Fiberglass

All of Mako boats hulls are built using hand-laid fiberglass laminates to assure strength, durability and consistent weight.

State-of-the Art Resin Delivery System

Modern resin storage and spraying equipment delivers a consistent flow of resin for the proper resin-to-glass ratio. This assures consistency for optimum hull strength and performance.

Final Assembly Stations

Fabrication specialists are trained specifically for the tasks they perform. Teams of quality control managers closely monitor the boat's progress and final assembly.
