2002 Polaris Octane Description
When you hear the name Octane, you automatically think of high performance. Well you guessed it – Polaris has introduced a stand-up model.
If you asked for a wish list from an ex-stand-up rider, his or her wish list of the perfect stand-up would read like this: a really big engine with two carbs that makes huge horsepower, a blueprinted pump with stainless-steel stator, a UMI handle-pole with all the trick handling components, (i.e. finger throttle and performance handlebar) a wider tray, a carbon-fibre hood and a deep-V hull at the front that transitions to deep chines at the rear so it would carve into turns as if it were on rails.
Polaris is ready to make 200 wishes come true. That’s right. These units are going to be rare. Although the stand-up market segment is the smallest and one of the most challenging, there are a tremendous amount of former racers and existing stand-up activists who would love to get their hands on this custom-built rocketship.
The hull was designed in a partnership between Wamilton Customs and Polaris. They have come out with a world-class race/freestyle standup. This new model is targeted for IJSBA card-carrying competition members only, racers in closed course or slalom racing and freestyle competitors.
The introduction of this new model will definitely get the buzz going in the watercraft industry. If Polaris is trying to make a statement, they succeeded. After all, it’s been over a decade since something new and exciting has been introduced in the stand-up market. This new stand-up performer is bound to shape a new racing legacy. This watercraft may create a surprising new resurgence of interest in stand-up machines. We’ll have to wait and see.
