2008 Walker Bay 310 Hypalon RID Description
Walker Bay has become known in the industry for providing highquality,
    innovative and lowmaintenance dinghies.
If you’re in the market for a tender that’s versatile and family-friendly, the Walker Bay 310 Hypalon RID may be just the one for you.
Our test boat was equipped with Walker Bay’s innovative Variable Profile Design tube, which transforms this original hard shell dinghy into a rigid inflatable dinghy. This merges the best of both dinghy worlds, offering the versatility and reliability of a hard shell and the stability of an inflatable. With the VPD tube in place, parents need not worry about sending their kids out to learn the fine points of commandeering their own vessel.
The test boat also comes with the optional high performance sail kit, which quickly turns this powerboat into a powerful sail boat. Once again, this contributes to the versatility of the boat, making it an ideal family cottage boat.
Walker Bay also offers several different combinations to allow the consumer to build a boat that meets their needs.
First, we took the 310 out on the water rigged up for sailing. The high performance sail kit packs a powerful punch in the right set of hands, but also allows for a peaceful day out on the water. Colour-coded rigging and durable rudder make for a fun and easy learning vessel – fun for both experienced sailors and novices.
Back on land, it took less than five minutes to convert the 310 to a powerboat and get the 6-hp Yamaha four-stroke outboard onto the stern. Once underway, we reached 6.3 mph with two people in the vessel. Due to the light weight of the boat, it actually helped to have someone sit up at the bow to help keep it balanced. The quiet four-stroke meant we could still have easy conversation even when coasting along at top speed. I registered 82 dbA at the back at full throttle. At idle, the engine purred at 55 dbA at the front and 62 dbA at the rear.
The 310 offered a stable and comfortable ride, turning quickly and easily. The VPD tube was definitely a worthwhile addition. And once we decided it was enough for a day of testing, I jumped out and rolled the 310 out of the water using the durable (and very handy!) wheel on the bottom of the hull.
Walker Bay definitely sets the bar with its attention to detail and innovative design. The company obviously had the consumer in mind with the 310 Hypalon RID – a durable and low-maintenance vessel that keeps fun at a
maximum and work at a minimum.
