2008 Caribe DL15 Description
Starting more than two decades ago with a modest line of dinghies, Caribe now boasts more than 35 models ranging in size from eight to 24 feet. The 15 foot, 2 inch DL15 fits in right about the middle of the lineup, but it’s by no means mediocre.
This rigid hull inflatable boat could be many things – an island cottage boat, a trailer boat, a ski boat or a console tender. And it would fill all these roles well as it includes many of the accessories and features that make Caribe known for safety and comfort.
The DL15 has upholstered seating for as many as five with a companion helm seat, small jump seat in front of the console, and an oversized bow seat. For greater visibility, the helm seat also features a flip-up bolster. All cushions are removable except the one on the companion helm seat.
Both the helm console and the tubes are integrated with the fibreglass hull, making for a very rigid structure able to handle harsh conditions. Not only is this practical, but it also gives the boat a nice flowing style.
The DL15 boasts several great features, including a built-in fresh water tank, sturdy oversized grip handles and removable carpet. The helm comes equipped with tachometer, speedometer, voltmeter and fuel gauge, and also has a mountable space that can be used for a GPS unit (or other such item).
If you’re hoping to store various items away from spray or simply out of the way, there is storage available under the bow seat and rear seats. There is also an anchor area storage at the bow and a rod holder built into the back deck. For increased space, the lifelines, oarlocks and blade rests are all
well-positioned, while the rounded tube ends create more usable internal space with the same length overall.
The oversized tubes on the Caribe are built for safety as well, with such elements as three air chambers and recessed air valves. And if you get stuck and can’t use the motor to get back on your way, the telescopic oars and fibreglass oarlocks will make rowing an easy escape.
With two people on-board, the DL15 shot out of the hole to 20 mph in just over four seconds – reaching 30 mph in just over nine seconds. It offered a solid, smooth ride – and a quiet one, at that, with the fourstroke Yamaha measuring only 85 dbA at top speed (5800 rpm).
If you’re looking for an all-round, all purpose boat that’s also easy to trailer, the Caribe DL15 is well worth taking out for a spin.
