2008 Zodiac Pro 12 Man Test Details
| You may not always get what you want, but with the Zodiac Pro 12 Man you can. Based on a unique “a la carte” concept, the company’s Pro range series lets the buyer choose from a host of accessories to install on the modular flat deck. This allows each consumer to customize the layout and amenities to best meet their particular needs. Already the chameleon of the boating world, a RIB can serve a great number of different uses, whether it’s diving, watersports, fishing, tender or versatile cottage boat. Armed with a rescue boat heritage, RIBs are also great for the needs of demanding users and rough waters. The Pro 12 Man, which can accommodate up to 12 passengers, is available in either grey or red. Standard features include removable buoyancy tubes that will make transporting, maintaining and cleaning the boat a snap. Also standard is a high-capacity fore locker that keeps the large hollow interior clear of clutter, as well as moulded non-skid deck and under-deck cabling passage for added safety. Several add-ons are available or you can choose a pre-set package. Our test boat addons included a helm console and seat, bar around the motor and self-adjusting trim plates. The addition of a helm on this size of inflatable is definitely a recommended option. The motor bar was also practical as it not only holds lights but also serves as a great grab rail if you’re doing anything at the rear of the boat. The hands-down winner of the add-on competition, though, were the trim plates. Traditionally when you hit the throttle on an inflatable the bow comes right up, especially if the front is not loaded with passengers and/or gear. The optional self-adjusting trim plates on the Pro 12 Man helped to combat this, bringing the boat onto plane quickly and easily – taking only 4.72 seconds to get from idle to 20 mph. On test day, water conditions were rough, but the Pro 12 Man proved itself, handling the one-foot chop well. The rigid hull drove much like a runabout, turning and cornering nicely. Equipped with the new Honda BF90 four-stroke, the Pro 12 Man reached a top speed of 42.2 mph with two people onboard. The inflatable tubes gave a good sense of security – we didn’t feel at any point as though we were in danger of tipping. Owning a multi-purpose RIB with a customizable layout means you’ll have as much freedom in your boat design as you do in how you use it. Whatever’s on the menu, the Pro 12 Man will serve it up. |

About Zodiac

Reassuring stability
The stability of Zodiac boats, thanks to its large buoyancy tubes which give it a low center of gravity, is such that under normal circumstances they are practically impossible to capsize. This quality, which is essential to safe, confident navigating, is especially appreciated by drivers and fishermen.
Practical in every way
The lightweight is not the only jewel in Zodiac boats crown. Have you ever tried shutting the trunk on a traditional boat? Or for that matter storing a traditional boat in a cupboard or the corner of a garage? The reason is that once deflated and folded the space taken up by a Zodiac inflatable is so much smaller that transporting it and storing it becomes extremely easy.
An economical boat
Running Zodiac boats requires smaller outboards than conventional boats to provide better performance thus saving you money when on the water. Their maintenance is straightforward and their resale is relatively easy with good residual prices, hence costing less when out of the water. With Zodiac boats, boating can be economical.
Almost as light as air
Take a look at an inflatable boat. You see fabric, a wooden transom, the fittings... but you forget the air contained in the inflatable keel or in the buoyancy tubes, which gives the boat its shape. Looked at this way, it is hardly surprising that a Zodiac boat fully inflated can be up to 3 times lighter than a comparable traditional boat making launching or pulling onto the beach so much easier.
