2008 Harbercraft Stingray 2025 Description
Some recreational boat builders go outof their way to build aluminum boats
that looks like they’re made of fibreglass. Harbercraft, on the other hand, has its roots in the wacky world of waterjet-powered river racing and embraces its welded-aluminum heritage.
With tall, angular windscreen frames, hardtops and cabins with rubber-rimmed glass panels, Harbercrafts are easily identified as welded
metal boats. They are also some of the toughest boats on the water for fishing, all-round recreation and shallow-water river running.
The company’s new Stingray 2025, with a distinctive half-hardtop and spacious cockpit, wouldn’t look out of place on a fast-flowing inland river. Most will likely find homes with anglers who want to be able to handle big
waters and enjoy their pastime in all kinds of weather.
The Stingray has a short self-draining foredeck, accessible through the opening windscreen and fine for still-fishing or handling the anchor. The helm and companion seats are very comfortable with wide and well-cushioned high
backs and armrests. Two inward facing back seats leave more cockpit space for fishing. The bracket-mounted outboard improves handling and performance, but also helps keep the aft cockpit area clear.
Storage lockers under seats, rod storage in the coamings and various cubbyholes will keep loose gear out of the way.
The test boat has red-painted topsides, deck and cockpit, with white flecks that help add some non-skid effect. Floors are easy-clean marine vinyl over plywood. Other than that, the boat is pretty much fabricated from aluminum.
Harbercraft’s patented Pre-Flex construction technique uses jigs to “pre-bend” parts of the hull, building in shape and strength. The 20- foot test boat has an 18-degree deadrise and reverse chines. Out on the water, that means a smooth ride in rough conditions.
Powered by a Yamaha F150 four-stroke, the Stingray is on plane quickly, reaching 30 mph in 8.3 seconds. Top speed is 47.4 mph with cruising speeds of 18.6 mph at 3000 rpm, 27.7 mph at 3500 rpm and 31.8 mph at 4000 rpm. The boat has a muscular appearance, but boat and motor together weigh only 2,500 pounds.
The half-hardtop is tall enough to let you move around easily underway, but the canvas is easy to remove if you want to stick your head out for a clearer look. On the water, the top adds a feeling of security. And when test day turns cold and rainy, the Stingray’s cockpit is a warm and comfortable oasis.
The Harbercraft Stingray 2025 proudly shows off its aluminum design and construction heritage, but its builders can also be proud of the way the boat performs.
