2008 Campion Explorer 822 SC Description
Campion has done a remarkable job of marrying serious fishing and family
cruising into one impressive package with the Explorer 822SC (Sport Cabin).
From the pulpit back with its serious ground tackle and windlass, to the high railings for safety on deck to the enclosed pilot house, expansive cockpit and twin bracketed outboards, this boat says serious fishing machine to me.
Entering into the cockpit, the fishing genes in its Explorer heritage are strongly evident. The bolstered cockpit features a folding transom seat
to clear the decks for fishing and a large aerated livewell, bait prep station and tackle drawers built into the transom. There’s adequate rod storage, several well-placed rod holders and the gunwales are reinforced ready to mount a pair of downriggers. With outboards, the cockpit sole has an in-deck fishbox and an expansive storage locker with access to some of the boat’s systems.
The enclosed cabin features expansive glass all around and a solid, locking door that makes this an ideal all-weather, all-season boat. Inside jump seats handle two extra passengers and the helm is outfitted with twin fully adjustable captain’s seats.
The helm is well laid out with Yamaha Command Link Digital engine system displays mounted up high for easy viewing with plenty of space for optional electronics and the 12-volt systems switches.
Down below is where the marriage of fishing and cruising happens. The interior of the Explorer 822 is essentially the same as the company’s Allante 825 Express Cruiser.
The bright cabin features an easy to care for fibreglass inner liner and a generous amount of headroom. The interior is nicely accented with wood cabinetry and tasteful upholstery. The galley to port is equipped with a single-burner butane stove, microwave, deep stainless sink and great storage. And for those family dinners below, the combination V-berth dinette provides ample seating.
The head has all the standard accruements and features a fibreglass liner. For overnight comfort, the aft cabin has a queen mattress, headboard
    storage and good recessed lighting.
In the power department, our test boat was rigged with Twin Yamaha F250 four-strokes mounted on a full width transom bracket that also functions as a swim platform. The Explorer 822 jumped out of the hole and on plane in mere seconds, and the big Yamahas pushed it to a top speed of 54.8 mph.
Handling was right on the money, with the Apex hull delivering a solid, quiet ride. Trimming in the twin outboards on the turns allowed this 26-footer to carve around nicely without a fuss.
Have the desire to fish and want to have the family along and happy? Think Campion Explorer 822SC.
