2008 Cruisers Yachts 300 CXi Express Description
As one of America’s foremost builders of express yachts, Cruisers Yachts has the design tools and the experience when it comes to building a 30-foot express that works well. It’s used them to make the compact 300 CXi work well.
In the cockpit, designers have not packed in as much seating as possible, but left room to move around. There’s a double-wide helm seat, a lounge at the companion position and a short aft-facing bench backing on to the helm seat. There’s another bench aft across the transom to starboard with a wet bar to port just ahead of the walkway to the swim platform.
Enclosed by canvas – fitted solidly on the radar arch and well-equipped with screens – the cockpit is a useful ancillary onboard living area. Screened “smiles” in the canvas forward allow those small areas to be opened to provide ventilation underway or at rest, without taking canvas down entirely.
Because maximized cockpit and cabin space have left little in the way of usable sides decks, the 300 CXi has a highly usable walk-through windscreen, complete with moulded-in steps leading forward.
Below decks, the designers provide plenty of accommodation, but by leaving the whole area open, with curtains for night-time privacy, the space is maximized. The master berth is located as far forward as possible and offset to starboard. The galley is to port just aft of the berth with the head further aft just ahead of the companionway steps. There’s a convertible Ultraleather settee/dinette to starboard.
The mid-cabin area, behind the open-tread companionway stairs, is a classic U-shaped convertible dinette. The area is great for kids, but also
serves nicely as a quiet place for an adult.
The boat’s galley is more than adequate, with a fridge, sink, stove and microwave oven, as well as plenty of storage. The head is also compact but
    spacious enough for easy use.
Cruisers’ experience building boats for real cruisers also shows in its placement of screened portlights, hatches and companionway for maximum
natural cross-ventilation. Cabins in boats can be muggy on hot, wet summer days at anchor. When cruisers are driven indoors; it’s nice to have good ventilation. At dockside, the boat’s standard air-conditioner and heater will come in handy.
Performance-wise, the 300 CXi, powered by twin 5.0 L Volvo Penta DuoProps, is fast enough, with a 43 mph top speed and cruising speeds from 25 to 35 mph.
After a few years, the 300 CXi’s owners will doubtless long for something bigger and faster. Cruisers has plenty to offer them. But for those just learning to love cruising, the well-equipped and well-designed 300 CXi is more than enough.
