2008 Riviera Yachts 3600 Sport Yacht Description
Every year, the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show draws consumers
and industry insiders alike to view the “best of the best” yachts in the world.
Exhibiting their exquisite line of 2008 models was Australian builder Riviera Marine.
Before attending, I boarded a very gracious sport yacht for Canadian waters – the Riviera 3600. Its 38 foot 6 inch profile immediately captivates
you – a prolific display of creative marine architecture blended with practicality.
Frankly, it was difficult to focus on one element at a time. Externally, lines flow seamlessly from bow to stern. Gradually sweeping upward from its deck and windshield is a hardtop that incorporates a massive, electrically operated sunroof, which allows light to flood into the salon. The hardtop extends aft, giving partial shade to the cockpit.
Viewing the 3600 from its stern, I was intrigued by how spacious the cockpit looked, and how less means more relative to interior design. Starting at the integrated swim platform with its inlaid teak surface, your eyes are quickly directed to a large, wide boot locker in the transom.
Aft in the self-draining cockpit is a transom lounge on hinges that lift on gas rams for lazerette access. In front of it sits a high/low folding teak table and forward in the floor is the engine room hatch with built-in step ladder. For convenience, there is a 12-volt refrigerator portside, hand-held shower and a master battery isolator panel.
Inside the refreshingly contemporary salon/galley, you will discover such luxuries as a large LCD widescreen TV, which at the press of a button disappears from sight into the counter top. All inside timber is cherrywood protected by a semi-gloss varnish.
High-quality galley amenities and a luxurious leather lounge might spoil you. There is a second floor hatch to access the roomy engine compartment.
Durable Amitco flooring will serve this boat well.
The helm station is my personal favourite. Sitting comfortably on the double-width helm seat with its moulded footrest, I had plenty to look at. From electronics and monitors to the chain counter and bow thruster, the 3600 feels complete.
There are two stunning staterooms, one forward featuring a double berth innerspring mattress, outboard storage cabinets and a cedar-lined hanging locker, and one to port, with a private entrance door and upper and lower berths.
So, how does it perform? Rick Moore of Northern Yacht Sales is the Canadian distributor for Riviera. Asked for his overall ride impressions,
he says, “At cruise, the 3600 feels like a much larger boat – more like a 42-footer. It is extremely stable in rough seas and with twin 380 hp engines running 32.5 knots, it’s quicker than comparative hulls.”
        “Simply magic,” I’d say.
