2008 Hatteras 56 MY Description
HatterasYachts recently announced the newest member of its fleet – the 56 MotorYacht – which includes all the luxury and design the rest of the family boasts at a reasonable price.
With its impressive interior and innovative features, the company hopes to entice a new group of boaters to the Hatteras family. And with a $2 million price tag, this 56 foot 8 inch vessel is definitely attainable for owner-operator cruisers affected with “footitis” or hoping to buy into the brand.
This is especially true given the spacious interior. In order to help maximize interior space on the 56 MY, which is so important for living and entertaining aboard, the standard twin 705-hp Cummins QSM11s are installed in aV-drive configuration with the gearbox forward. With the engine room positioned so far aft, there is much more room to play with belowdecks. When this is combined with the 56 MY’s 18-foot 2-inch beam, the boat offers as much interior space as some yachts in the early to mid 60-foot range.
You enter the 56 through a three panel sliding door, of which the panels stack in order to create an “open-concept” entertaining area between the salon and the aft deck. This also means lots of fresh air for early morning coffee or enjoying a beautiful sunset at anchor. And even if you choose to keep the sliding door closed up, the huge panoramic windows will leave little of the outside environment to the imagination.
Once inside the salon, a large sofa to port and a smaller one to starboard offer a nice spot to watch the 37-inch flatscreenTV (mounted on the galley countertop) on rainy days or cool evenings.Up a single step, you find yourself in the U-shaped galley, which features custom-designed cabinetry with a rich mahogany feel offering lots of storage for extended trips on the water. Appliances include an upright refrigerator and freezer, two-burner cooktop and convection/microwave oven, all of which will ensure you feel as comfortable in your galley as you do in your kitchen at home.
To port, a large circular dinette provides seating for six, giving the feel of a “country kitchen” found on larger vessels in this category. Just forward of this is a stainless-steel ladder leading to the bridge above. If you prefer, a lower helm is available as an option – this shrinks the size of the table somewhat.
A few steps lead down from the galley area to the lower deck staterooms. Owners of the 56 MY will definitely enjoy the 130-square-foot, full-beam master stateroom aft, with its tapered king-sized berth, vanity to starboard, large fixed portlights, cedar-lined hanging lockers and twin dressersThere is also a 20-inch LCD television and stereo speakers. To port is the private head with twin sinks and a choice of either a shower or full-sized tub with sliding glass door.
Forward the guest or crew quarters are also quite generous.AVIP bow stateroom features a tapered queen berth that lifts to reveal cedar-lined storage below. There is also a cedar-lined hanging locker and cabinets. Port of the bow stateroom is a small room with twin crisscross bunks, which will be great for kids or crew members.A shared head is to starboard.
If you have crew on-board and prefer they have private quarters, an optional arrangement creates a compartment with a single twin bunk, hanging locker, sink and shower. This is accessed via the bow deck by replacing the portside storage locker above.
Back out on deck, there are plenty more of the luxurious appointments and amenities found inside the Hatteras 56 MY.The flybridge not only offers great views, it also provides comfortable areas to socialize and entertain. There are three different flybridge arrangements available, all of which include spacious portside seating with exterior access to the aft deck and twin helm chairs positioned at a centreline helm with plenty of space for multiple flat-screen displays and electronics.Wide side decks allow for easy docking and provide access to a storage locker to port and a moulded-in bench seat on the bow deck.
Depending on how you use your boat, you can customize the aft overhang with either of the optional arrangements – either opt for a davit and dinghy (up to 10 feet) or 208-square-feet of entertaining space incorporating a sun lounge and more seating. Additional space for guests is found down below on the spacious aft deck, where you will find a moulded circular settee with quick access to the swim platform below. Once again, Hatteras gives the owner choices to customize their vessel with the option to eliminate the standard fibreglass aft bulkhead and instead use stainless-steel railing and tempered, laminated glass to encase the aft deck.
An aft deck hatch or optional bustle door in the transom offers access to the spacious engine room.A single fuel tank set forward of the engine room bulkhead eliminates the need for a fuel transfer system and helps distribute weight efficiently for improved performance. This fuel tank is located close to the centre of buoyancy and keeps trim angle steady as fuel is consumed, and is also positioned between insulated bulkheads in order to significantly reduce noise carrying into the living quarters.
According to Hatteras, the 56 Motor Yacht is expected to achieve a cruising speed of 18 knots and top end of 21 knots when powered by the standard twin Cummins. The optional 1,000-hp CAT C18s will push the 56 to a cruise of 26 knots and a top end of 29 knots.
If you’re looking to get into a big boat with big space, with lots of options to make it your own, the luxurious HatterasYachts 56 MotorYacht should be on your list of test drives this summer.
