2009 Lowe FS175 Description

What most boating families want are options – and plenty of them. I’m not talking about extra equipment that can be added to a boat; although that is sometimes needed to increase a boat’s versatility. What I’m talking about is a wide range of boating lifestyle choices.

The Lowe FS175, for example, offers several ways to go boating.

At first glance, the 17-foot, 3-inch FS175 is clearly a capable fishing boat. It’s built of welded aluminum, a durable construction material and method favoured by anglers. It’s got casting decks, big livewells and swivel-seat sockets fore and aft. There are three swivelling seats at the helm, companion and mid-rear cockpit for maximum versatility, plus a 27-gallon fuel tank for maximum range.

But with fishing rods put away in the cockpit floor locker and fishing gear stowed, the FS175 is easily re-purposed for all-round family fun on the water, for day cruising or a variety of watersports.

Fishing room readily converts to family space, with two comfortable jump seats that flip up from the aft casting deck and a bow seating area easily converted by adding optional cushions. A small swim platform with a boarding ladder is already in place aft to starboard. Add an optional ski pylon and the boat is ready to tow.

The 115-hpMercury outboard has enough power for fishing, watersports and family outings. With a 7-foot, 8-inch beam, reverse chines, V-Tech hull and four extruded lifting strakes, the boat planes easily and accelerates quickly enough – to 20 mph in under seven seconds and 30 mph in about 10 seconds. On GPS, cruising speeds range from 24 to 33 mph (3500 to 4500 rpm, respectively) top speed is 40.2 mph at 5400 rpm.

The engine and hull combination is very quiet. Many boats can provide low sound readings (less than 90 dbA) at cruising speeds, but few can keep down the noise at top speed.

High topsides, a stable hull and a tall windscreen make the FS175 a comfortable and safe platform for all sorts of activities in all kinds of conditions.

No matter what boating option you choose, the FS175 will be ready
