2009 Nordic Tugs 49 Description

The new Nordic Tug 49 retains the tradition and look developed by the company over almost three decades of operation – but there have been subtle changes.

First, it is the first Nordic to have a flared bow, a foil rudder and a moulded-in spray rail, which knocks down the spray generated as a vessel moves through a head sea. At the transom, the swim step has also been enlarged fore and aft.

The 49’s tunnel hull means a shallower draft and more prop protection, leading to improved fuel efficiency. The vessel’s exterior is entirely glass and stainless steel that can be easily scrubbed clean. The cockpit has a set of engine and thruster controls that make docking easier. With moulded non-skid walking surfaces and ample side decks, movement on the 49 is both easy and safe.

The fit and finish of the interior oiled teak woodwork is excellent. The salon comes equipped with a 26-inch LCD HDTV that pops up out of a set of teak cabinets. Opposite the TV is a very comfortable leather settee and chair with a triangular table within easy reach of both.

Forward of the salon is an efficient U-shaped galley, complete with a four-burner electric stove with oven, dishwasher, ice maker, microwave and refrigerator/freezer. A deep, double stainless sink is set into Corian countertops that match well with the teak and holly sole.

The pilot house features all the electronics required to operate the vessel and monitor almost all systems. It also boasts a full-size chart table and full-size paper chart drawer.

In a break from tradition, the master stateroom is not located in the fore peak, but under the pilot house where it can take advantage of the full hull beam. It boasts a queen-size island berth with under stowage, a private head, shower and vanity, sound system, and enough storage for extensive cruising.

The guest stateroom in the fore peak is as well appointed as the master, with an island berth, plenty of storage and direct access to the guest head.

The 10.8-litre (661 ci) 610-hp Cummins QS Melectronically controlled diesel engine drives the new 49 through a speed range of 4.5 knots at idle (600 rpm) to a top speed of 17 knots at 2300 rpm without strain or stress.
