A wide-open design and extra deep cockpit make the 1625 feel bigger than its actual size. With a companion swivel bucket seat to port but no passenger console, the cockpit flows directly into the bow area, where you will find a raised casting platform featuring an oversized in-floor compartment with two hatches for convenient access.

Forward, there is also a livewell and baitwell, and the first of four positions to mount a pedestal seat – two more are in the cockpit and the fourth at the transom. For added versatility, there is an optional bow cushion available. Rod lockers located on both port and starboard gunwales keep your equipment tucked out of the way.

The helm boasts auto-style dash and chrome gauges, all accessible and easy-to-read. The swivel bucket seat is comfortable and offers lots of legroom. Visibility forward is good through the windshield.

Not only does the 1625 Rebel XL SS maximize on storage and space for its size, but also on features for the price. The test comes equipped with Lund’s SportTrak accessories system, which allows you to attach a variety of accessories without having to drill any holes in the boat. Another neat Lund-exclusive feature is the ProTrak boat covering system, which offers a “weathertight fit” thanks to a specially engineered channel tucked up under the exterior gunwales.

On the exterior, the Lund IPS hull integrates the power strake, the reverse chine and the footprint to deliver a solid flow of water to the prop to reduce draft and keep you on plane. Not only does this help stability (especially in turns) and provide better overall boat control, it improves engine efficiency.

The superior handling capability was immediately obvious out on the water, as our test boat accelerated smoothly, cruised comfortably right up to top speed, and responded well through a variety of manoeuvres and turns.With two on board, planing and hole shots were a little slower than expected, but respectable given the fact that more horsepower can be added.

With the 1625 Rebel XL SS in its lineup, Lund gives those reluctant to part with their hard-earned cash an opportunity to get a genuine Lund experience without giving up the quality and features that make you want one.
