2004 Crownline Crownline 210LX Description
In 12 years, Crownline Boats of West Frankfort, Illinois, has climbed to a leadership position within the highly competitive production sportboat business.

The 2004 210LX is a perfect example of Crownline's commitment to superior marine workmanship and design.

Without getting into the intricacies of construction, suffice to say Crownline builds a strong, safe hull.

Engineered with Crownline's FAST tab (Fin Assisted Safe Turn) ventilated hull design with reverse chines and a delta pad, the boat runs as well as it looks. While the bottom may look stepped from a distance, you will find just a notch in the chine, a conservative stab at improving straightline performance while maintaining safety in the turns.

If you think the 210 looks similar to last year's 208 model, you have a keen eye. Crownline modified this "next generation" model for 2004, by giving it a new three-piece, curved and optically enhanced windshield. Two seating options are available, a choice of two adjustable SAS buckets and an L-shaped lounge, or a single driver bucket with an extended lounge. Regardless, the buckets are extremely comfortable and contemporary in appearance.

Our test boat incorporated Crownline's premium package and sported an extended (some might call huge), nonskid swimming platform. If you're into watersports, this will catch your attention, as will the equally sizable in-deck ski, kneeboard and wakeboard locker with drainage channel and removable rubber pad. To simplify boarding, Crownline has placed a four-step stainless- steel telescoping ladder at the bow.

The 210's main cockpit is very inviting. Thanks to generously sized stowage areas, passengers will enjoy the boat's clutter-free, well-designed floor space. Functional amenities include a 25-quart removable cooler, grabhandles, insulated storage compartment with glove box, Sony stereo CD player and built-in, two-tier beverage holders.

Drivers will enjoy the 210's woodgrain paneled dashboard full of stainlesssteel bezel framed Faria gauges and matching tilt steering wheel. I particularly liked the height of my seat and how protected I felt behind the 210's windshield. Engine compartment access is simplified by flipping the entire front panel of the lounge forward. Mechanics will be thrilled.

For the gadget-minded, Crownline's 210LX comes with a handy pocket remote to control the boat's interior courtesy lights. It will help you find your way down to the dock and into the boat at night, and lets you walk back to the cottage before the lights shut off.

Our test boat came equipped with MerCruiser's 5.0 L MPI, a trusty 260-hp V-8 engine renowned to for peak performance throughout its power band and well suited for this wide-beam 20-footer.

The 210 rides well at every speed. I was amazed how low the bow remains on take-off. Popping out of the water in two stages, the boat planed in 3.4 seconds, with the bow dropping completely flat in 4.3 seconds. In short order, we topped out at 5,100 rpm,my GPS indicating 51.5 mph.

When cornering, trimming the Alpha One drive completely down makes the bow bite well. At no time did the prop ventilate, nor did the stern slide. I felt comfortable enough to crank on the wheel both port and starboard at high speed, with the engine turning steadily at 4,400 rpm and the speedo reading 40 mph throughout each turn.

Mid-range acceleration tests find the 210 travels from 20 to 40 mph in 7.7 seconds and 30 to 50 mph in 12.6 seconds. The boat is easy to steer, handles well in a variety of conditions and cuts through the water with ease. The hull's floating floor is partially responsible for Crownline's ride quality. As expected, premium performance all around.
