2004 Lowe Lowe Suncruiser Trinidad 222 Description
    Lowe has been building pontoons for a long time and it shows in the workmanship and layout on the Suncruiser Trinidad 222, one of their company's most popular models.



    Well-equipped for a leisurely daycruise, the Trinidad 222 also has two pedestal fishing seats mounted on the aft deck area for comfortable angling.As part of the fishing package the boat also has an aerated livewell, a large rod locker and a platform to hold your rods while trolling, mounted in front of the engine between the pedestal seats.



    The boat has entry gates in the bow, on one side and in the stern. Aft, there is a heavy-duty boarding ladder for easy entry in and out of the water. Over the engine Lowe mounts a ski tow-bar for your favourite watersports. The main cockpit area is comprised of two facing lounges in the forward section, an Lshaped lounge in the aft and a tanning pad behind it.



    Opposite the aft L-shaped sofa is the helm station with a very comfortable bucket seat. The helm has all the necessary instrumentation to monitor the Evinrude 75-hp E-TEC outboard, including fuel, tach, trim and voltmeter gauges, along with the speedo. Both the JVC AM-FM CD player and gauges are mounted in attractive woodgrain inserts in the moulded fibreglass helm console.



    For those inclement days on the water the helm includes a removable windscreen. Below the helm a storage area holds a cooler and also has plenty of room for other gear.



    As on most pontoons, there is lots of storage under the lounges for life jackets and other gear. The Suncruiser Trinidad offers plenty of options, such as a privacy enclosure, vinyl floor, tilt steering wheel and propane barbecue grill.



    For power, the test boat has the new Bombardier Recreation Evinrude E-TEC 75-hp outboard on the transom.



    Evinrude's E-TEC direct-injection two-strokes were launched last November in a series ranging from 40 to 90 hp.This was quite exciting in itself as these new E-TEC outboard engines represent the first engines completely researched and developed by the Bombardier Recreational group since it took over the company a couple of years ago.



    The 75-hp Evinrude E-TEC pushing the Trinidad 22-foot pontoon provides excellent torque, while meeting EPA emission standards as well as tough European Union standards. A technician from Evinrude explains that the new ETEC engines, with their outboard engine management modules, have automatic winterizing, need no spring tuneup and have no scheduled dealer maintenance for three years with normal recreational use. And you'll never have to change the oil during those three years. Now that puts the fun back into boating.



    After hearing about the engine I was anxious to try it for myself. The engine starts immediately no matter how many times I turn it off and tried again. Apparently this is a result of the highenergy ignition, which delivers more spark at start-up; Evinrude has dubbed this the Sure-Start system.



    Reaching open water I immediately push the throttle wide open and the boat thrusts forward, accelerating from a slow idle to 20 mph in less than five seconds.



    A pontoon handles differently from other boats but the Lowe is responsive to various turning manoeuvres. Cruising along at 3,000 rpm or about 10 mph, the noise level is quite acceptable as I enjoy the beautiful scenery near Stuart, on Florida's east coast, and forget all about any problems I have left behind at the office.
