In an attempt to claim top spot in the four-stroke battle for supremacy, Kawasaki has released the 2005 STX-15F, a three-seater that's determined to out-do the Doo's.
To win the power struggle, the manufacturer has shoe-horned an inline four-stroke, 1,498-cc engine into the hull. It has higher lift cams, an optimized intake manifold, larger 60mm throttle body and higher revving capability. The result? Instant acceleration and balls-to-the-walls performance.
But that doesn't mean it's off-limits to rookies. The STX-15F also features Kawasaki's new Smart Learning Operation (SLO) which enables the owner to limit power for riders in training. That's a good thing when you're master and commander of a lightweight craft with aggressive sponsons and a high-rpm jet pump.
Other excellent extras: Kawasaki's Smart Steering, which will automatically increase engine speed for additional thrust in turns, a magnetic theft deterrent ignition switch and multifunction gauge which tells you everything except the weather.
In the comfort department, the STX-15F provides a spacious handleto- seat position, which enables you to ride sitting or standing on a hull with a deep forward section and strakes for reduced wave shock. Of course there's room for three on board and when it comes to reboarding, an extra-large after-deck and flip-down step help even the most ungainly get up out of the water.
This PWC is not only user-friendly, it's environmentally friendly. The craft's electronic fuel injection has lowered emissions - enough to clear strict U.S. CARB 2008 regulations. Dual sound-absorbing boxes are also included to decrease exhaust noise while a large capacity airbox drops the sound of intake.
Stealth, speed and superior handling - when released on unsuspecting Canadians the STX-15F will prove to be an unbelievable weapon of mass seduction.
