2005 Four Winns Four Winns 190 Horizon Description
Father Bill Winns and his three sons built their first boat in 1962. You guessed it - that makes "Four Winns." Today the company manufactures an extensive lineup of bowriders, cuddy cabins, deckboats and cruisers. The Horizon line of open-bow runabouts has been a successful mainstay for Four Winns with several models in the 17' to 28' range. For 2005, the all-new 190 Horizon has been "re-mixed" to provide a contemporary look sure to delight newcomers and brand devotees alike.

The 190's lines are fluid, as is the new standard graphics package, available on all-white or two-tone gelcoat. Four Winns continues to offer its successful Classic Colour Band option, which consists of a wide band of gelcoat accented with a hull stripe in either a matching or contrasting colour.

Not to be outdone by its classy new exterior, the 190 Horizon also sports several new interior touches. The upper dash shroud is charcoal grey and a beige lower shroud, accented with burlwood and chrome, compliments it nicely. The Faria gauges, including a four-in-one multi-readout, are accented with silver bezels. The sporty new stainless-steel steering wheel features burlwood and taupe leather-look accents. Off to the extreme right of the dash, Four Winns incorporates a small yet functional Ritchie compass.

A very innovative feature is the small storage compartment at the base of the helm. This lockable compartment — equipped with a 12-volt outlet — is ideal for small items such as your wallet and cell phone.

Two seating packages are available. The standard package includes a backto- back port sleeper seat, a starboard bucket seat for the operator, and aft adjustable jump seats. A Sun Sport package features bucket seats forward, and an aft lounge and sundeck. Two other useful features with the Sun Sport package are the removable cooler that stows under the aft lounge, and the flip-up sun deck cushion that offers easy access to the swim platform.

On the swim platform itself, you'll find a newly designed ladder, with deeper reach and wider rungs for more comfortable access. This may be a relatively small item, but shows muchappreciated attention to detail.

At the bow, you'll find a comfortable seating area with stainless-steel grab-bars, recessed beverage holders and a pair of speakers. The forward seat cushion flips open to reveal a drained storage locker, fitted with an anchorholder. Additional storage is found under the two seat cushions to port and starboard, and behind the forward-facing seat backs. An optional wakeboard tower, available with board-holders and speakers, is sure to be popular with the watersport enthusiasts.

Six power options are available but our test boat was fitted with a MerCruiser 5.0L, coupled to an Alpha drive and spinning a 14 1/2"prop. This package shot the 190 Horizion out of hole in a very respectable 2.9 seconds with virtually no bow rise. The hull tracked very well and refused to break free, even through a series of aggressive turns. A comfortable cruising speed of 29.6 mph was registered at 3,000 rpm, and at wide-open throttle, the GPS indicated 49.1 mph at 4,900 rpm. This top end speed is quite respectable. However, a slight reduction in prop pitch should easily take the top end over the 50 mph mark.

The Horizon 190 was a real treat to test. Four Winns has once again outdone itself with a well-appointed and innovative sport boat. It delivers great performance, and offers comfortable day-cruising for a crowd.
