2005 Larson Larson Senza 206 Description
Senza is a familiar name for Larson fans and the new 206 - one of three new runabouts in the Senza series - lives up to its sporty lineage. Like the other new Senza models,it's got bright colours and stylish lines.

Like all Larson sportboat models under 24 feet in length, the Senza 206 is also manufactured through the VEC (Virtual Engineered Composites) construction process. According to the manufacturer - part of the Genmar boat company family - this patented technology offers efficiency and precision unobtainable with traditional fibreglass moulding.

Up at the bow, you'll find comfortable U-shaped seating. All of the upholstery is colour-matched to the hull, with a choice of three colors - blue, black or red. Under the seats are three self-draining storage lockers, to port and starboard, with one at the bow. These fully moulded lockers are also fully finished (a neat part of the VEC process), allowing for easy cleanups. Functional handholds are present on either side of the seating area, as are the recessed beverage-holders. Also in this area, you'll find a pair of forward speakers for the Clarion sound system.

In the cockpit, there are slider/swivel bucket seats at the helm and companion positions and a full-beam bench seat aft. An optional U-shaped bench with a table is also available. With this latter configuration,a filler cushion converts the seating area to a sunpad.

Under the bench seating, there is plenty of open storage space, with a 25- quart Igloo cooler under the middle seat. The cockpit also features optional snap-in carpet designed to allow convenient access to the large ski/storage locker in the cockpit sole. On either side of the cockpit you'll also find handholds, beverage holders, and the other pair of speakers for the sound system.

At the helm, the fibreglass moulded dash is laid out in a simple but effective manner.A pair of large Faria gauges is centred above the optional tilt steering wheel. One is a standard speedometer, the other is a functional multi-gauge with readouts for rpm, voltage, and fuel. Four smaller Faria gauges and a set of rocker switches for the 12-volt systems fill out the remainder of the dash.

The forward passenger has convenient access to the sound system, which is housed inside the glovebox.Although functional, the cover on this storage compartment seems quite flimsy and didn't complement the standard of craftsmanship evident in the rest of the boat.

Our test boat was also fitted with the optional Bimini, which came in very handy under the midday desert sun on Las Vegas's Lake Mead. I was impressed with the amount of headroom that was available.

There are a variety of engine selections available but the test boat was rigged with the Volvo Penta 5.0L GL. This 220-hp powerplant popped the 206 Senza up onto a plane in a very respectable 2.9 seconds with very little bow rise. With a half a tank of fuel, and two adults on board, we settled into a comfortable cruising speed of 29.5 mph at 3,000 rpm.Top speed was a snappy 51 mph at 4,800 rpm. Although Lake Mead was quite calm, I did manage to cross the wake of several passing boats. The 206 Senza tracked very well through the swell with no evidence of banging or rattling. The hull also continued to track well through a series of high-speed turns and manoeuvres.

First-time boaters or seasoned boaters alike will not be disappointed with the 206 Senza. With ample power and stylish design, it will help you look good on the water. The sporty performance lives up to the Senza name and will keep you entertained all day long.
