2006 Zodiac Zodiac Zoom 340 S Description
Inflatable boats originated in Europe where cars are smaller. An inflatable boat can be transported easily in a small vehicle and yet it can go places where any other type of boat that size, would not be as safe.

Inflatables use as little as 6 psi air pressure and the sturdy tube material can withstand a lot of abuse. At 11'2", the Zoom 340 S has a horseshoe shaped inflatable hull, with individual chambers for safety and a special keel tube to improve the ride and handling. There is a hard floor and the plywood transom is secured between the tubes. The 340S has a heavy rub rail in blue, white and black that surrounds the gray Strongan Duotex tubes, to ward off chaffing.

As a result, the Zodiac can bump against other boats or obstacles without suffering, or causing damage. Because the side tubes have so much buoyancy, the little Zoom 340 S is rated for a 15 hp outboard and can carry 5 passengers - a huge load for such a small boat.

Transporting such a load, you might need the brawny 15 horses our Suzuki engine delivered but, I would suggest 5 hp would be plenty for children. The Suzuki pull-start was light and easy. It started on the first pull but at idle, shook the whole boat. That smoothed out with some throttle and a liberal shot of power litreally stood the Zoom 340 right up on it's transom! We liked the Suzuki steering tension adjustment, the easy engine tilting mechanism and that the shift control is mounted forward, near the driver's hand.

Zodiac promotes the Zoom 340 S as an ideal, inexpensive first boat for children but it can open up great new possibilities for adults as well.
