2006 Stanley Stanley Islander 19 Description
Georgian Bay is legendary for its rocks and shoals, rugged shorelines and of course, the wind and waves that sweep across it. When you are on an island, you are at the mercy of the weather and the conditions you boat in, no matter how beautiful the area may be. Stanley Boats' Islander 19 model, built in Parry Sound, Ontario is a great tool to tame the rugged beauty of Georgian Bay.

A lot of people understand this. Stanley Boats, a part of Connor Industries in Parry Sound has experienced 15 to 20% growth every year for the last seven years since this commercial boat manufacturer introduced their line of pleasure craft to the residents of Georgian Bay. Stanley Boats are welded aluminum construction and the Islander 19 features a 3/16" hull and sides, non-slip, self bailing aluminum floor, 6 inch wide gunwales, welded aluminum frame windshield and a very functional full width swim platform.

The Islander is 19' on a generous 95" beam and is rated for up to 150 hp. Everything about this bowrider design shows rugged functionality. Whether you are carrying a load of family and friends or a load of cement blocks, the Stanley feels like it is up to the task. That kind of heavyduty use might require 150 hp but our test boat was fitted with a 115 hp Yamaha fuel injected four stroke and it would be hard to imagine how you could improve much on the performance.

While the Stanley looks bulletproof, [and probably is] the aluminum construction is fairly light. A quick stab at the throttle and the Yamaha responds, planing off in four seconds and ripping up to top speed in less than 10 seconds. We experienced only 7 degrees of bow rise from rest to planing and the driver's vision was never obscured.

We recorded 102 dB at the helm, doing 40 mph but the sound was all wind and water noise. 3,500 rpm seemed to be the ideal cruising speed and right up top speed, the boat felt secure. Trimming the engine down, we could crank the steering right to lock at full throttle and the Islander tracked right around. Crisscrossing other boats' wakes brought little drama; the 16° deadrise hull delivered a smooth ride.

The Yamaha electronic instrumentation looked simple but these clever gauges give you tachometer, speed, trip distance and your fuel level; all at the press of a button. The helm also had a convenient breaker panel and blank circuits for accessories.

Our test boat had the optional back-to-back sleeper seats in Sunberella fabric. These are comfortable but basic. We would have liked to see a tilt wheel for standing operation and a footrest as well, but Stanley is really a custom boat builder with lots of options to choose from so those additions are probably available OEM or through your dealer. We especially liked the driving position and a 6 foot Captain will look right through the middle of the windshield, enjoying great protection from the wind and rain. What a small boat rarity that is!

A full width aft bench seat delivers more passenger accommodation and has generous storage under the seat as well. More storage is available under the bow seating and that area is nice and deep with an optional welded aluminum rail for added security.

People in the market for a 19 foot family / utility / fishing boat should really have a look at the Stanley Islander. It may not have the plush appointments of some other 19's but when you spend a few minutes with this boat and crank on the smooth-as-silk Yamaha F115, you quickly appreciate its many virtues.
