2001 Lund 1900 Pro-V SE Description
The first Lund was built in 1948; continuous improvements have been made ever since. Today’s Lunds are lighter, more durable and structurally sound than ever—not to mention more economical to operate and easier to maintain. At Lund, the aluminum manufacturing process is an art, but unlike a painting, a lifetime limited warranty is attached to every boat.
In 25 years, I’ve tested many Lunds. I’ve never been disappointed by their performance. Comfort is but one element that really stands out. Anglers can expect softer, quiet rides, and luxurious features.
The 1900 Pro-V SE is the second-largest model in Lund’s popular Tournament Series.
The boat feels long and wide, its ample 94-inch beam easily accommodating the many cockpit and casting platform features. It is also deep, 37 inches amidships and 41 inches of depth in the bow. Security is emphasized, with 12-inch-wide gunnels, traction step-pads, carpeting throughout and grab-handles for every passenger.
Safety and strength go hand-in-hand, and Lund boats are definitely solid and seaworthy. Lund double-rivets all seams, double-plates the hull from bow to midship (where the majority of pounding occurs) and runs I-beams the entire length. Cleverly, Lund has also braced its transom to withstand the weight and torque of Yamaha’s powerful 200 hp HPDI outboard.
The Pro-V 1900 offers two spacious casting platforms, both incorporating numerous wells, lockers and storage bins. Standard features include a massive lockable in-floor rod storage system with 10 rod tubes, a 31-gallon aft livewell with dual aerator pumps, two built-in Plano 700 minnow buckets and in-floor easy-access battery storage.
The single ProControl console features no-feedback tilt steering and a large, tinted contoured windscreen that slightly distorts one’s view. The console itself is a command centre. The main base houses port and starboard rows of switches, a Clarion Marine XMA2 stereo/cassette player, Garmin Fishfinder 240, and an ICOM Marine VHF IC-M45.
Like a car, the Pro-V 1990’s independent upper-tier dash shades reflection and houses a mix of highly visible analog and digital instruments. Every colour and shade matches on this boat, including the durable upholstery used on the three high-back bucket seats.
Ultimately, my pleasure came from driving. Lund professes to have a wider-than-usual footprint in the water, which incorporates their IPS —Integrated Power Strake — hull—and reverse chines to help the boat plane and turn better. While some credit must go to Yamaha’s brute-force 200 hp HPDI engine, the numbers are impressive. The boat maintained a consistent plane at 21 mph/2,500 rpm before the bow began to rise, and cruised effortlessly at 3,700 rpm, indicating 35 mph.
Topping out at 57. 2 mph (GPS) took only 18.6 seconds. Mid-range torque is also there — the Lund pulled from 30 mph to 55 mph in 10 seconds.
While the boat flies high, there is loads of control and manoeuverability. The ride was soft, soft, soft—and a delight to operate at every speed.
