2006 Triton Triton 2690 CC Description
If you are mounting an assault on open water, Triton's center console 2690 CC is armed and ready.

Challenging past designs of long time offshore builders, Triton, now part of the Brunswick group of boat companies, is bent on convenience, reliability and structural integrity. Engineered by Triton founder Earl Bentz and his team of professional anglers, this distinctly robust and spacious fishing machine looks every bit as good as it runs.

And does it move. When combined with twin 225 hp Mercury Verado outboards, let's just say this is one very powerful package. Pushing twin 21" Pitch Mercury Revolution 4 propellers at 5700 rpm, the 2690 CC, which weighs 4450 lbs. dry, streaked to a top speed of 60.6 mph. Impressive.

We were equally enthralled by acceleration throughout the Verado's power band. I can't emphasize just how smooth - and quiet - these engines are. This 27- footer planes in 4 seconds, goes from 0 to 35 mph in 8 seconds and stays on plane at 22 mph with its motors turning 2700 rpm.

This boat shines when cruising at an effortless 40 mph/ 4000 rpm, a speed most of us tend to spend a large amount of time at. It doesn't seem to matter how rough the water is either - the Triton gobbles up waves like a Raptor shreds prey. Little can throw it off course.

Our Verado outboards took plenty of trim without any sign of propeller ventilation. Like every Triton that I've tested, the 2690 sets up perfectly before its hull carves a path through the water. Its bow hooks up softly and the stern doesn't slide. There's a comfort factor attached to Triton that I sense and appreciate every time out.

I consider stability, and therefore safety, to be paramount in any boat test. In the Triton, my sensation of security peaked when I hit some rather large rollers. However hard that water was, the ride felt cushioned and though I did back off the throttles, I didn't really have to.

As great as the ride is, Triton deserves accolades for interior correctness; that is to say the cockpit is laid out for sport fishing, large lake cruising and, as some will testify, for transporting people, goods and island cottage items in less than perfect weather conditions.

I would never call the 2690 CC a utility boat, but it's certainly up for the task. Given 100 % Uni-body composite construction, foam flotation and a Zeroflex stinger system, the hull doesn't pound, will not rot and should last a long, long, time.

OK, now let's get to the good stuff. Fishing features include 4 flush mounted stainless steel rod holders, high speed pickups for washdown and baitwell, 2 tournament sized fish boxes and tackle drawers with organizers. Man, do I like being organized! The 500 quart fishbox with macerator and overboard drain is a luxury, but the leaning post tackle centre with grab rail is something one can't do without. Gotta love it.

Amenities of convenience include a highly functional pulpit roller and anchor latch assembly, large lockable dash box, fibreglass console foot rests, raw water washdown and a molded 96- quart cooler seat aft with removable cushions.

There is plenty of practical storage space. Gunwale rod lockers with bungee rod restraints will keep your poles, OK - rods, where they belong. Tools can actually be placed in the aft bulkhead door… what a clever use of otherwise unused space!

Sitting at the helm, one certainly gets a sense for how big and beamy the Triton is. Visibility is excellent and relief from the sun is offered via overhead canvas top. If I can offer but one piece of advice, remember to snap down all seat pads forward, as air will circulate and send them flying at speed.

Riding high and dry, this 60 mph offshore fishing machine is a performance boat through and through. Convenient, great looking and powerful. What a combination!
