2001 Cruisers Yachts 4270 Express Description
We have lift-off.”The glee in the voice of Barrett Reid of Starport Landing Yacht Sales was palpable as we directed the 2001 Cruisers 4270 Express into the roiling chop of an angry Lake Simco in late fall.
Powered by twin T3126 Caterpillar diesel engines, this sleek 4270 seemed just as pleased as it sliced through the four-foot swells and executed easy turns at speeds in excess of 30 knots. “No tab and look at how flat she’s running,” Reid en-thused. “She’s happy. This is where she wants to run.” He was right. The new Cruisers 4270, with Cats purring, is particularly impressive with angry skies and whitecaps distorting the horizon. If a diesel-driven, 30,000-pound (loaded) 47-foot yacht can be this confident in these conditions, it’s easy to see why the model is so popular.
In the burgeoning yacht market, the 4270 is the star of the line of new-age yachts that are attracting big money, first-time buyers like never before. For baby-boomers, wallets bursting, there’s no time for building up experience on the water. No, the time is now and if a new boater can afford the $635,000 the 4270 commands, the boat had better be easy to operate and a joy to ride all summer day long.
This one meets both criteria. Packing turbo power, the 4270 handles like a sport boat. The helm station is set off by the lacquered steering wheels with shifters on either side – with directional shifters on the left for ease of docking. The Faria gauges and switches are forward of the sight-line and leave the left hand free to get to the switches when running. You’d be surprised how many boats require piano-hand dexterity for no reason.
With an amazing 16 engine options available, you’re sure to find the right one for you, but it’s hard to knock the welcome rumble of a diesel. No load, or a full load, the diesels don’t care. From a dead stop, you get the feeling the engines are getting ready to show off, and then suddenly they do, you’re off and running.
Rounded lounge seats adjacent the captain’s chair and to the rear provide the type of room and comfort you’d expect and there’s easy access forward through the windscreen. Below, the 14-foot beam allows for some unique elements. While you’d be pushed to find a manufacturer these days that hasn’t incorporated the push-in, pop-out cabinet knobs, Corian countertops, rounded door-tops and Clarion sound systems, small changes and amenities set this boat apart.
Being able to sit on the main stateroom bed without hitting your head; the cherry wood floors in the extra-large galley; six-and-a-half feet of headroom; a salon TV on a swivel and a mid-cabin you actually want to spend some time in, help make this Cruisers memorable. In fact, the mid-cabin boasts the biggest closet on the boat, not to mention the biggest bed. The twin berths can be converted to a king-size bed using a filler cushion. A large mirror to the left gives the feeling that you aren’t closed in. That’s accentuated by the full-size stand-up shower in the rear head. The mirrors, padding, drawers and cushioned walls all serve to make guests and family
    feel pampered.
From the dock, the boat’s just as impressive. The reverse radar arch, integrated bow pulpit, white gelcoat and gold Cruisers lettering help enhance the thoroughbred racehorse image the 4270 wants to express.
