2007 Rinker Captiva 262 Cuddy Description
Many people think an 18 to 20 foot

boat is the ideal cottage runabout,

but that size can start to feel pretty

small when you're out on Georgian Bay or in the

    middle of Lake Muskoka.

With a boat like the Rinker Captiva 262

Cuddy, big water is more comfortable and the

accommodations are great. And, depending on

options, the Captiva 262 comes in around

$70,000; you certainly get a lot for the money.

Including the massive swim platform, the

262 is 28 feet, 2 inches long and has an 8 foot,

6 inch beam, making it trailerable without a

permit. At 5,350 pounds, you'll need a big tow

vehicle, but it would be a great boat for exploring

    new areas.

The great thing about a cuddy cabin is that

you have sleeping accommodations for two and

a portable head with the option of a full holding

tank pump out system. There is a sink with

running water in the cockpit and a single-burner

stovetop that makes the boat legal for eating

and drinking onboard. The cuddy is also a

handy place to change for swimming or skiing,

or simply to get the kids out of the sun.

Rinker gives the 262 a cockpit to rival many

small cruisers. The standard transom walkthrough

is both convenient and it makes that

huge swim platform a part of the interior

    accommodations. Across the engine compartment

is a large sun lounge with a clever backrest

    that props up for tanning.

The cockpit has a full fibreglass liner with

snap-out carpet, a big circular trash locker, Ushaped

seating with a removable table and the

refreshment centre is located just behind the

helm seat. The huge radar arch is structural -

strong enough for a wakeboard tow pylon. It

also serves as a handy storage spot for the

    Sunbrella material Bimini top.

Other nice features are the built-in cooler,

freshwater shower on the transom and transommounted

remote controls for the sound system.

But don't think accommodations are all the

Captiva 262 has to offer. This is really a performance

boat. The helm includes a racing-style

wheel, Danforth compass, instruments for tach,

speed, depth, trim, fuel and engine functions.

You get press-reset breakers, lit switches, another

remote control for the stereo and LED cockpit

lights for convenience when night cruising.

The flip-up seat bolster needed a bit more

padding and in really rough running the windshield

header was a little closer than I'd like, but

overall this is a boat you'll love running.

The test boat had a 6.2 L MerCruiser at

320 hp driving a Bravo 3 drive and with

Corsa Quick and Quiet exhaust. At idle

with the exhaust closed, I recorded 71 dbA

and a comfortable 88 dbA at full throttle.

On test day, the boat was running in a particularly

nasty chop on Lake Ontario and

spent a bit of time airborne, but it made

good use of the 21-degree deadrise deep-V

hull. For a boat this size, acceleration was

strong, reaching 25 mph in only 6.3 seconds

and topping out at 45 mph doing 5000

rpm. By opening the exhaust, I picked up

another 2 mph for a top reading of 47 in

spite of the rough conditions. Handling was

    very good at all speeds.

The Rinker Captiva 62 is quick and

comfortable enough to really expand the

    horizons of your boating enjoyment.
