2007 Doral 2100 Monticello Description
If nerves about handling a boat bigger than

your runabout have kept you from trading up,

then wait no longer. The Doral Monticello

drives like a runabout, making it an ideal entrylevel

cruiser for anyone wanting to spend more

    time out on the water.

This 25 foot, 4 inch express cruiser carved easily

and responsively through turns on our sunny -

and sweltering - test day. It cruised effortlessly at

22.4 mph and 3500 rpm, offering a smooth and

comfortable ride despite lots of wake from other

boats. The trim tabs quickly responded to any

shift in weight within the boat while underway.

With a single 280 hp engine, the Monticello

came out of the hole to 20 mph at a respectable

10 seconds and reached a top speed of 41 mph at

5000 rpm. Given the load and the single engine,

these numbers can be largely attributed to the

Volvo dual prop. As well, I expect the boat could

have pulled a few more mph out had there only

be myself on board with less than an almost full

tank of gas. For those who want even more speed,

power packages are available up to 320 hp.

On board, our test boat made quite a first

impression equipped with the Ultimate Package,

which includes such appointments as a

    Viscoelastic mattress, varnished wood cockpit

table and cushions, customized bedding, a deluxe

steering wheel, and varnished wood table and

steps. The Monticello we tested also came with

the Entertainment Package - a 15-inch LCD TV

and DVD player, Sirius satellite radio, and a

deluxe sound system with six CD changer.

At the helm, the Monticello has a bolstered

companion seat offering good visibility through

the windshield, as well as of the instruments. Our

boat also sported the optional electric-assisted

retractable radar arch, ideal for getting under

    bridges and for trailering.

The cockpit area on the Monticello has lots of

space for entertaining, with an extended L-shaped

seat with a removable triangular swivel table and

under seat storage. To port, our test boat has the

optional sink alongside a rear-facing lounge seat.

The large integrated swim platform comes with

stow-away ladder, shower and grab hand rail.

The bow on the Monticello is easily accessed

through a wide walk-through. Forward, our test

boat has a clip-on, moulded, upholstered sun pad,

as well as a bow rail with cut out for easy anchor

    access.

Down below, this boat makes efficient use of

the space available, while a skylight, overhead

hatch and portholes give the area an airy feel. The

main cabin has a large table with lots of seating,

but it was a bit difficult to get into. The attractive

galley sports a granite-aspect counter, stainless steel

sink and microwave oven, as well as a refrigerator,

electric single-burner stove and adequate storage.

The head has a shower with curtain, a screened

porthole, towel bar and mirror, as well as some

    storage.

The Monticello's aft cabin is a little tight and

hard to climb into. However, the floor level double

bed is sectioned off from the rest of the cabin by a

privacy curtain, and has a reading light, screened

porthole and cabinets for storage. A wardrobe closet

for hanging clothes is located in the main cabin.

Compared with other boats of its size, the

Monticello has great use of space, performance

akin to a runabout and a price tag that is attainable

for anyone looking to spend a more than a

    few hours out cruising.
