2007 Grady-White 232 Gulfstream Description
You know a boat's going to put on a

show when the dealer who supplied it

insists on accompanying you on the test

just so he can watch your face.

The performer on this autumn day is the

    2007 Grady-White 232 Gulfstream, a rugged

walkaround cabin designed to withstand offshore

fishing conditions that also offers comfort and

amenities for any boater looking for a versatile

    small cruiser.

Boasting the high quality fit-and-finish for

which Grady-White is renowned, the 232's helm

is comfortable and all the gauges are in good

sight and easy reach. Although the helm seat is

    not bolstered - a negative for my 5-foot, 3-inch

frame - there is still good visibility through the

high, protective windshield. The adjustable foot

rests on the side-by-side captain and passenger

bucket helm seats is a definite bonus.

Although our test boat only has four rocket

launchers on the very solid T-top, there is ample

storage space for rods in the cockpit area. For all

the other accessories, the 232 Gulfstream offers

two lockable overhead compartments in the helm

area, as well as a zippered netted area attached to

the underside of the T-top. Drawers under the

passenger seat, tackle box storage under the captain's

seat, and a large draining storage area on the

transom with hydraulic lid ensures the boat is

    clutter-free for any on-the-water activities.

Other great features on the 232 Gulfstream

    include 316 yacht-grade stainless steel hardware, a

transom shower, fold-down transom bench seat,

transom bait prep area, and toe kick rails on both

port and starboard. Access to the bow is easy with

    a good-sized, non-skid recessed walkaround.

One of the few drawbacks of the 232 is the

location of the black water pump out. Due to

the boat's design, this is located in the rear of

the passenger helm seat base when it should

really have been put outboard. Fortunately, the

entire boat is non-skid flooring for easy cleaning.

Down below, there is ample sleeping for a

cuddy of this size with an optional single folddown

bunk over a cushioned L-shaped bench

seat that converts into a double berth. The

Thetford head is tucked away underneath. A

single burner and sink make this small galley

area functional, despite minimal storage. Three

screened portholes allow for air flow and natural

    light.

Out on the water, the Grady-White 232

shot effortlessly out of the hole to 20 mph at a

noteworthy 5.06 seconds with three people on

board and three-quarters of a tank of fuel.

Running smoothly at cruise at 4000 rpm, the

Grady-White patented deep-V hull sliced and

diced the wake we kicked up on turns. This

boat handled so well, we only wish Mother

Nature had thrown a bit more at us than a 15

    to 20 km/h southwesterly wind.

But it was once we put the boat through

the usual paces that the 232 Gulfstream

showed what it was made for. At full throttle

(46 mph), we were told to throw the wheel full

to port. The boat not only held, but kept turning

in tighter and tighter circles. The G-force

on our bodies was not the only thing taking

our breath away - this was truly impressive.

Any boater looking for a versatile and comfortable

    multi-purpose vessel, offering safe and

reliable handling on big waters, should definitely

    consider the Grady-White 232 Gulfstream.
