2007 Stanley Pulsecraft 22 Description
People say, "You can't take it with you."

Well, that's a crock! If you have a

Stanley Pulsecraft, not only can you

take it with you, you can probably drive it on

    board!

Over the past few years, Connor Industries,

manufacturers of the Stanley line of welded aluminum

boats, has discovered the pleasure boat

market has real enthusiasm for their industrial

    designs.

A Pulsecraft has a wide range of applications

for cottage owners, particularly those with water

access. Patterned after the World War II landing

crafts, Stanley's Pulsecraft has a totally open cargo

area in the bow, accessed through a 60-inch wide

drop ramp. You can literally drop the ramp and

drive your ATV or utility trailer right on board. A

hand winch makes it easy to close the gate and

    very reliable.

In terms of cargo capacity, Stanley produces

the Pulsecraft in four different models: 20, 22, 24

and 26 feet. All have the same 15-degree deadrise

V hull and an 8-foot, 4-inch beam. Cargo capacity

ranges from 1,400 pounds for the 20-foot up

    to 3,800 for the 26-foot.

Your faithful boat tester should have had a

load of sand and gravel as part of the test procedure!

Since we didn't, though, we'll just have to

assume that the impressive performance figures

for this boat would translate into significant load

    carrying capacity.

The 150-horse Suzuki four-stroke kept the

Pulsecraft on plane down to 3000 rpm and full

throttle acceleration was impressive, taking only

3.5 seconds to plane off and under 10 seconds to

reach top speed with no load, about half a tank

of fuel and no other passengers. The ride was soft

and handling was surefooted. The Sea Star

hydraulic steering was both light and precise. I

especially liked the high and very protective

windshield. The seats were comfortable, although

I thought they lacked the heavy-duty look that

characterizes the rest of the boat.

The helm and companion seats were

pedestal-mounted swivel buckets, while a fullwidth

aft bench seat increased seating capacity to

five plus and offered a large amount of storage

inside. The test boat had basic instrumentation,

carpeting to help deaden the sound, and there

was a Bimini top and curtains made of the same

    material as the seats.

At times, the flat front ramp will connect

with a wave in rough water, making a bit of

noise, but causing no problems. The entire bow

area is self draining - rainwater runs right out.

Across the transom is a full swim platform with

    boarding ladder.

Stanley makes available a wide range of

options allowing you to personalize or dress up

your Pulsecraft 22 to suit your own personal use.

The maintenance-free raw aluminum finish on

the 3?16-inch plate aluminum used throughout the

entire boat will eventually oxidize to a grey

colour, but this is probably as close to a maintenance-

free boat as you will ever find.

For those who want to haul a load of lumber

one day and tow a wakeboarder the next, a

Pulsecraft 22 with the quiet and smooth-running

Suzuki 150 might be perfect for you. This is a

boat that is almost certain to gain a real cult following

    among island cottagers.
