2007 Regal 1900 Description
    Regal Marine Industries has evolved its

    boat line into one of the most comprehensive

    in the business, with models

    ranging from the 1900 to the 4460 at well

    over 40 feet. The company's success has resulted

    from developing some innovative and clever

    designs.

    The 1900 bowrider is a perfect example of

    that.

    This is a big, beamy and handsome boat,

    nearly 20 feet in length and built on what Regal

    calls their FasTrac hull design. Although the running

    surface of the boat is basically a deep-V

    with 22 degrees of deadrise at transom, the running

    surface is very "trick." Where the lift strakes

    start in the forward section, diagonal shapes that

    disrupt the flow of water are moulded into the

    hull. Slightly aft is a step in the hull, which starts

    at the chines. The step allows air to be drawn in

    easily, lifting a part of the running surface clear

    of the water to reduce drag at high speeds.

    When you get on the throttle, you quickly

    see the results of the hull shape. The test boat

    had a Volvo 4.3 GXi V6 engine with the new

    SX series drive and a four-blade aluminum prop.

    At 225 horsepower, this fuel-injected engine is

    powerful and smooth running. It delivered hot

    acceleration numbers, taking only 3.84 seconds

    to plane and reaching 40 mph in less than 12

    seconds. What impressed me the most was at

    5000 rpm (exactly 50 mph on the GPS) the

    boat felt secure and well in control.

    It is particularly interesting that it also feels

    very light and buoyant as though you are skipping

    over the waves like mad, but the FasTrac

    hull responds instantly to your helm commands

    and maintains a stable feeling at all times.

    During our test, it was most impressive.

    In terms of styling, the Regal 1900 had

    remarkably smooth fibreglass work, showing off

    in the dark-coloured hull sides. The lines are

    likely to wear well over time on this bowrider.

    The accommodations are good as well.

    This bowrider has an anchor locker, two

    stainless steel cup holders forward, more in the

    cockpit, grab bars, foot lights and abundant storage

    areas. Clever features include a connection

    for a trailer light harness in the bow and a pair of

    transom-mounted tail lights to improve your

    trailering safety. The centre windshield section

    latches open with a large magnet rather than a

    flimsy nylon fitting or strap.

    The Regal 1900 has a generous swim platform,

    a three-step telescopic boarding ladder and

    a neat pop-up ski pylon. A transom walkthrough,

    another unusual feature, is ideal for dog

    owners, people with mobility problems or just

    for convenience when swimming or retrieving

    fallen skiers.

    In the cockpit is an aft seat and sunpad with

    large built-in cooler. Regal has fitted lift struts on

    virtually all the opening hatches. There is also a

    spacious glove box. I was especially impressed

    with the helm and its optional mahogany steering

    wheel. The 1900 has remote controls for the

    stereo in the hub and the driving position was

    close to ideal with instruments mounted high

    and in clear view. There is a Kenwood stereo system,

    which is MP3 and changer ready.

    This is a premium family boat that delivers

    performance that will get any cottager excited.
