2001 G3 Boats 175 Wt Test Details

When you go shopping for a boat, take the time to
speak with a knowledgeable salesman. You never want to judge a boat on
appearances alone. There are often 101 goodies hidden away out of sight.

Witness the G3 175WT. It looked like a nicely
constructed fishing boat, but speaking with a G3 regional sales
manager, I learned valuable things that made the 175 seem even more
attractive.

Did you know, for example, that the G3 line is owned
by Yamaha? It was purchased in 1997 from founder Brent Lowe, the
grandson of the man who created the Lowe boat company. Originally
called Generation III boats, the name was changed to G3 to simplify
things. Yamaha

also opted to keep the line simple by offering the boats completely rigged.

Every boat, including the 175, comes with a
powder-coated Bear trailer and a Lowrance X-38 depth finder. American
models are delivered with motors attached. Canadian vessels are powered
up at the dealership.

The 175 walk-through is a brand new model this year,
designed to appeal to families, not just serious fishermen. It is
loaded with conveniences. Take, for instance, the convertible bow. The
centre portion of the fishing platform can be removed. Lay down some
cushions, and the V175 is transformed into a bowrider.

The 17-footer comes with the driver’s seat, which is
permanently mounted, and two pedestals. The boat can seat six if you
convert the bow and purchase an extra pedestal. For fishing purposes,
three seats in the craft is more than ample. This boat is definitely
rigged for hunting down the catch of the day. There is a pair of
eight-foot locking rod lockers, a lighted, aerated livewell with a
removable bait bucket, plus full rigging for a trolling motor. Most G3
models come with a trolling motor. Since it’s aimed at family boaters,
the 175 lets you order it as an option.

Make certain you give ample consideration to what
motor you’re going to bolt to the back of the boat. Ours was powered by
Yamaha’s 115 four-stroke. It’s an ideal choice. Not only is it
whisper-quiet, it’s great on gas and has excel-lent mid-range power and
top-end speed. Tooting along at 30 mph is a real pleasure, or you can
get home quick with the craft’s 43 mph full-throttle flight speed.
According to the reps, our test boat was rigged with the wrong props,
so the numbers get even better. The boat feels solid in the water and
provides a wind-free ride thanks to the windshield, and keeps you dry
compliments of a concave spray rail.

There are so many things I could tell you about this
craft, but you can find out for yourself. Be sure to ask about Yamaha’s
steering cables, the double-plated hull and reverse chines. Also ask
for a demonstration of the no-pinch seat hinges, remote drain switch
and bow light that doubles

as a horn.

About G3 Boats

At G3 boats, building the best quality, best value fishing and pontoon boats in the marine industry is no accident. As a Yamaha boat Company, we strive for excellence in all of our research, manufacturing and testing processes. We also believe that a total team approach in our Lebanon, Missouri facility gives us the best opportunity for success.

How do we measure our success? It is measured with consumer satisfaction and by answering this simple question, "Does our product line give our customers the quality, features and performance they deserve for their money?"

Features like welded construction using the highest-grade .100 gauge marine aluminum. Unihull designs for a stronger, more stable craft from bow to stern. The 'New Generation Hull' for superior performance on all G3 boats. Our exclusive GX2 double-plated V-Hull designs. Interior designs specifically engineered for comfort and performance. Reliable custom-built powder-coated trailers and legendary outboard power by Yamaha. Not to mention striking graphics and luxurious upholstery. First-class attention to detail throughout adds up to the best value on the water.

And the success of G3 boats is measured by your own friends and neighbors. Boaters like you who might own an HP high performance boat, Sun Catcher Pontoon or Gator Tough Jon, as G3 boats has been one of the fastest growing aluminum marine manufacturers in the country for the last five years straight.

Our family of craftsman - from the manufacturing floor to the management staff - are fishermen, just like our customers. Fishermen, who believe in testing and re-testing every component thoroughly before proceeding to the next step and always striving for excellence.

It's all part of the G3 boats advantage and can be found in every component we manufacture. Plus, when you purchase a new boat, motor and trailer as a package, you will be reimbursed for your resident freshwater fishing license for the first three years you own your G3 boat package.

We encourage you to compare quality, price and features available in any other aluminum boat line and then take a look at G3 boats. You won't find better fishing partners than G3 boats and Yamaha.

Quality of G3 boats

A quality boat calls for a quality outboard. And Yamaha is the benchmark by which outboard excellence is measured. Proven technology like advanced microcomputer ignition and Yamaha's state-of-the-art anti-corrosion protection system provides outstanding reliability and dependability day in and day out.

Yamaha just can't leave well enough alone. It continues to reach unprecedented levels of power and performance and then finds ways to take them even higher. Yamaha's OX66 Advanced Fuel Injection Technology, for example, led the way to its new HPDI (High Pressure Direct Injection), which swept the industry's innovation awards. And Yamaha's expanding series of compact and lightweight four-stroke outboards is becoming the preferred choice of more and more anglers, thanks to its clean, quiet, and fuel-efficient performance. When you want the best, look for Yamaha. It's the power behind every G3 boat.
