2001 Silverline 1805 Description
Looking for value in a sterndrive-powered boat and like the idea it is made here in Canada? Take a closer look at the Silverline 1805. This capable bowrider measures out at 17" 8' with a full 7"7' beam. That's large enough for the family, but in a design that still behaves a bit like a sports car on the water.
The 1805 maximizes the interior space provided, with a glove box capable of doubling as an ice chest, with built-in beverage-holders. The colourful rear engine hatch-sunpad provides an excellent place to relax. Below, inside the engine compartment – housing a 4.3 L Mercury MerCruiser on our test boat – there’s plenty of storage space alongside the engine.
Back in the cockpit, the aft bench seating combines with swiveling helm and companion bucket seats for family-friendly comfort. The helm seat adjusts fore and aft to let the driver find the optimum placement for both comfort and control.
As a product of Florida-based marine architect Wolfgang Schneider, who undertook a redesign of the Silverline line of bowriders a few years ago, the 1805 has a top-performing modified-V hull that allows quick planing without sacrificing much in the way of sea-keeping ability. A hull that planes easily usually also exhibits good load-carrying capacity. So, load up the boat with family, friends and watersports equipment. It’s sure to take it all in stride.
The 1805’s design is executed by Odyssea's boatbuilders in Winnipeg, using industry-standard fibreglass layup, with high density foam in the floors for flotation and sound reduction. The foam probably contributes to the low sound levels at the 3,000-rpm cruising speed; the decibel-meter read only 83 dbA at the helm and 88 dbA in the aft area of the cockpit. The stainless steel hardware is back-plated for security; the two-tone gelcoat finish adds to the boat’s visual appeal. Overall, the 1805 makes an appealing package.
A woodgrain dash and colour-matched carpeting come as standard equipment on the 1805, along with a stainless steel ski tow ring and colour-matched Sunbrella convertible top set. The AM-FM cassette stereo is also standard.
The Silverline 1805 probably does its best on sunny summer days, top down, water toys ready, sunscreen handy and lunch packed. Test day, however, was late fall – sunny but very cool. Lake Simcoe was choppy, with the sort of short, close waves that often rattle small bowriders.
The 1805 performed well with a top speed of 47.6 mph, with the
carbureted 190-hp 4.3 L MerCruiser humming along at 4,900 rpm. With acceleration from a stop to 30 mph in 6.45 seconds, the boat was accelerating to plane quickly for a small bowrider; the V-6 4.3 L obviously combines nicely with the 1805’s hull.
Cruising speeds are also right on the money – 27 mph at 3,000 rpm, 32.4 mph at 3,500 rpm and 39 mph at 4,000 rpm.
The numbers add up in the performance de-partment, but may also make sense in the value department, especially for cost-conscious bowrider-buyers who are considering a Canadian-built boat.
