2001 Lund 17 Mr. Pike Description
Fishing boats aren’t only about performance as it pertains to speed. They must also have the equipment that will let fishing folks perform and produce the results they want out on the water.
The Lund 17 Mr. Pike, powered with a four-stroke Honda 75, not only performs well on the water but is jam-packed with a number of features to make it one great fishing boat.
To mention just a couple of the more notable features, the boat is equipped with dual ProLong livewells (bow and aft); for storage it has dual rod compartments and seven indi-vidual storage compartments built into the boat mostly in the floor.
For seating, boat comes with two pedestal seats that are contoured to fit your back snugly and comfortably. The seats are upholstered with the boat’s brand name, Lund, tastefully embroidered into the back. Each of these pedestal seats can be moved around the boat to fit into six different bases mounted into the floor. The boat has bow and aft ProDecks for casting at your favourite fishing spot, with a built-in floor base for one pedestal seat in each area.
Like every other Lund boat, the Mr. Pike 17 is built from aluminum using double-riveted-seam construction and comes with a lifetime warranty on the riveting. The hull is made with double-plate from bow to midship, because that’s where the boat takes a poun-ding. Extruded I-beams run longitudinally deep in the hull where they are tied to transverse stringers to maximize strength.
Lund’s IPS Integrated Power Strake hull with its re-verse chines bites into the water for exceptional stability, especially in the turns. The IPS hull brings you out of the hole faster, in our case pushing us from 0 to 20 mph in 4.3 seconds. The hull will also keep you running higher out of the water, keeping the spray to a minimum.
Taking the boat out onto the lake for a test drive I encountered rough conditions, as I left the sheltered bay where the marina was located. Putting the boat through a series of turns, running down the lake at different speeds, I put the IPS hull to the test. I was pleased with how well it performed as the boat spray was kept out of the boat and the hull tracked exceptionally through every turn.
Returning to the sheltered bay I ran the boat at different engine speeds, achieving a top speed of 31.6 mph and a cruising speed of 17.5 mph at 3,500 rpm. As I put the motor through its paces, I was impressed at how quiet and smooth it ran. At idle, the Honda 75 is so quiet it takes nothing from the peacefulness as you troll the lake in search of a prize catch.
Some aluminum boats look like they’ve been put together from pieces and components that don't look like they be-long together. Not the Lund Mr. Pike 17. From the helm station to the exterior graphics on the hull of the boat you can’t help but feel someone took painstaking care to create a boat that not only performs well but looks great, from a distance as well as close-up.
It looks good and it's sure to help you reel in some big fish as well.
